Adopt the Pace of Nature

“Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Earlier this month when I was at graduate school in Southern California rushing around between classes, I noticed a few snails slowly making their way across a sidewalk on campus. I laughed out loud when it dawned on me what a great reminder they were to patiently pace myself as I embark on a multi-year adventure towards completing my degrees.

Because my eyes were open, I stopped to notice these little creatures … and because my heart was open, I allowed nature to nudge me into appreciating a more realistic perspective on life. Thanks to these slow-moving snails I was reminded to adopt the pace of nature, which in the long run will help keep me moving in a healthier more sustainable way.

How has nature reminded you to be patient and slow down?

  1. Wonderful observation. For me, there’s nothing like mountain to remind me to be patient and to stay grounded.
