Waiting for Natural Perfection

I caught myself waiting again. You know, we all have done it. We fabricate excuses to wait for the perfect day, weather, and conditions or wait for the perfect friend, partner or circumstances, to finally give ourselves permission to get out and DO whatever small thing we have been dreaming about.

So while in Carpinteria, California getting ready for the next session at graduate school, I finally stopped yearning about going to the Pacific Ocean but instead jumped on a shuttle bus and hit the beach.

Yes, it was far from the perfect day, in the rain and cold, but I was so grateful that I finally ignored all the excuses to make it perfect and was able to JUST DO IT. I cannot begin to describe how deeply contented I felt to smell the salty ocean, enjoy the spray on my face and felt the pounding waves deep in my soul. I lay on the wet sand, in the rain for an hour soaking up all the imperfect yet powerful natural energy.

The result was that my natural energy became a little smoother, more balanced and grounded, I was ready for an intense three days. What this taught me was that the next time I heard myself making excuses not do something because the conditions were far from perfect, I would remind myself of how grand an imperfect day could be by remembering that rainy day on the beach in California.

Is there something you could be doing if you were not worried about waiting for that perfect time or place?

  1. Great!!! So glad you made it there! I can’t believe you had cold and rain! I was there for 34 days and only experienced about 3 minutes worth of a rain shower!!!!!
