Watching snowflakes fall softly reminds me of the passage of time. On an early morning wintery walk, I watched a dog catch some snowflakes on its tongue and as I watched them melt I wondered, is this the closest you can get to catching time?
It is impossible to ‘catch’ time but sometimes time does seem to go slow or standstill. Same with the melt rate of snowflakes. Sometimes they evaporate quickly and other times they hang around for a while. One thing is for sure, that particular snowflake is gone forever and we all know that no two snowflakes are the same. So with moments of time.
And just as snowflakes leave their moisture on the environment, ending up in snow drifts and water in streams, so do the individual moments of time contribute to the fabric of life. While it would be impossible to watch each and every snowflake fall or each and every unique moment of time, I do feel more life perspective when I stop and notice the process.
So in an attempt to enjoy more of the uniqueness of my life, this winter I have decided to build in some daily ‘snowflake’ moments. To simply sit and notice what is happening in and around me. Perhaps these brief glimpses of time will add more balance and appreciation for all that is … and all that will be.
In Memory of my dearly departed sister Natasha.
