Another Wild and Fierce Transition

Posted By on Oct 31, 2013 | 14 comments

The interval between the decay of the old and the formation and establishment of the new constitutes a period of transition which must always necessarily be one of uncertainty, confusion, error, and wild and fierce fanaticism.

John C. Calhoun

Once again I have moved out of the log cabin and into a condo (yes you heard right – a condo) in the quaint village of Pemberton, British Columbia. Also I am actively transitioning away from lodge life towards more fulfilling life work. Not surprisingly, through all of this I have been feeling a mixture of emotions.

This emotional turmoil partly stems from the lack of a clear ‘map’ for the journey, enabling confusion to colour the landscape of my transition. In other words, I am not sure what I am doing, why or where I am going in life. The one thing I am sure of is that this transition, the rebuilding of my new inner and outer worlds, is a major and ongoing project.

So while I stride and struggle … into and through this rebuilding project, I get to exercise and flex my natural courage muscles, remember who I really am, stretch into who I can become, while not forgetting to celebrate with wild and fierce enthusiasm!

Of course any and all advice or ideas on how to break into a new community would be greatly appreciated … if you care to share – what has worked for you?

  1. Life is a process; living is experiencing. Your rich life experience and inner strength and will help you break into the community I am sure. By the way I am painting one of the pictures in your 2013 calendar you sent me and I will email you a copy once I finish it. My best to you Carol.

      • I thought to myself, where is Carol going now, so I googled Pemberton. Its looks like a beautiful place and I would say it will be perfect for you Carol. You have the comforts of home but still in the territory that you love and really care for.

Regarding how to transition to this new chapter, I can not advise you because as you know I bought my family home that I lived in since I was 5, and Diane and I have lived there ever since. But I do now that through your career Carol, you have always enjoyed meeting new clients and you have always developed a very strong bond with them, even became close friends. Me being one. So don’t over think the move, just take each day as it comes and just be you…the “Natural Courage Girl”.

        • Ah Joe … I do miss our lunches – for the simple fact that we would hold the mirror up for each other … thanks my friend.

  2. Carol, I trust you and your ability to navigate this messy space. You have done it before, you know how to “make the path by walking”(to quote Machado). Big hugs and a vote of confidence from here.

    • Marcia what a great image …’make the path by walking’ … I shall reflect this while walking around the little lake that has become my first friend.

  3. When we go from a place of comfort and security to one where we become vulnerable, whether it is new surroundings and the unknowns or the challenge of finding a new path, it’s nice to know your friends have your back. 🙂 For that matter, it’s nice to be your friend! One thing for sure is the many who care about you are not about to stop caring. I continue to draw inspiration from your experiences, with appreciation.

  4. I am so proud of you !!!! I would suggest you get involved with the chamber, some cities have new to town clubs, go to visitor centre, look up city hall and they should give links and maybe volunteer . Hope this helps

  5. Say Hi to your neighbours and smile. Ask them questions as to the best restaurants, best dry cleaning etc. you will be amazed at the connections you will make.
Another great way to meet people is to get a dog. It is amazing the people you meet when you are walking a dog. That is how we have met our new neighbours. Great people!
    Just be you Carol.
