Cookie Courage

Small, enticing bits of sugary yumminess, displayed in bright sparkly arrangements, homemade with love … where did all that will power go, how could you only just try one?

It takes a ton of self discipline, yes even courage to maintain a balanced life style at this time of the year. Having baked 20 dozen cookies for a church bazaar, I know first hand how impossible it can be NOT to taste, test and try my own baking as well as all those other wonderful offerings.

Denying myself the opportunity to try new and wonderful celebratory, mouth watering treats has been an annual challenge. And every year I get better at trying a few new things without going overboard … the trick? None really, I just remember what my Mom’s Cousin Rosie used to say … “a moment on your lips, forever on your hips” … and then I pass on that 10th piece of kringle.

So how do you find balance during this season of festive foods?

      • I just enjoy the season and indulge, no rules during the Christmas period. Then comes January, diet, exercise and saying next Christmas I am not going to do this!! Same story year after year, but I do enjoy the moment.
