My time in British Columbia has come to an end. Leaving with half the things I came out with but twice the memories, the journey towards the next phase of my life has begun.
My recovering right foot determined that a break every 90 minutes or so would be mandatory for me to safely make it back to Ontario. Since I am usually an A to B traveller, this forced me to randomly stop to be curious about places I would normally blast by.
I was drawn to visiting the Last Spike, where CP Rail finished connecting a railway across Canada and stopping at the Crowsnest Pass, the spot of the Continental Divide and where the Trans-Canada Highway was completed. Both of these were major Canadian milestones connecting East and West. It did make me wonder about what was my ribbon of steel, what was the fabric that wove all of my life parts together.
Since leaving is a time of reflection I drove all day in silence. My stops included feeling first snow on my face, smelling freshly falling leaves, collecting rocks and soaking my foot in frigid glacial feed rivers.
After the first day of travel, I have left beautiful BC. Here are some pictures from the drive between Gold Bridge, British Columbia to Canmore, Alberta. And yes Mom I did take some pictures while driving.
